About Jay Eff Kay: here are the facts of my life. i was born in boston [hyde park] to young parents. we had no money to speak of. as ridiculous as it sounds, we couldn't afford mcdonald's more than twice a year or so and i remember that getting a happy meal was like a second christmas for me. i enjoyed having lots of kids on the block to play with, but our neighborhood was getting increasingly violent; one time my mother was mugged with me in the stroller. my parents scraped together the money to put a down payment on a house in the city, which we renovated together, then flipped, providing us with the money for a down payment on a house in the suburbs closer to worcester, massachusetts [upton]. this town was half bedroom community [i.e. rich yuppie fags] and half poorer families. overall, i would say it was a pretty fucking good cross section of america. some nice homes with green lawns, some double wides. basketball. weed. oxycontin. shotguns. bmx [or in my case, huffy] bikes. pretty fucking normal. i went to catholic high school and because [a] i am a genius and [b] i bust my ass, i got into a top university. once there, i found myself amongst a lot of richie douchebags and knee-jerk liberal group-thinkers. i would say this is the beginning of my "alienation" phase. after college, i wasn't sure how the fuck i was going to pay my bills and i thought being a lawyer seemed like a decent career so i went to law school. that is around when i started rapping -- pretty much just as a way to pass time during boring classes, scribbling rhymes in the margins as i was taking notes and so forth. after law school, i went to work for a top law firm down on wall street. while i've always been a depressive person, at this time i became truly suicidal. kissing ass and working dog hours on these cases just so rich guys could get richer. no thanks, i quit. now i'm a rapper. i rap about america mostly and i hope that based on this brief bio you will agree i'm qualified to do so.
